Today we’re talking about natural health– how I got into it (my personal health story, which I don’t talk about very often) and some resources for those of you who are just beginning your journey.
Amanda asked, “How did you become interested in health and natural remedies? Could you talk a little about your beliefs and practices when it comes to that? I’m starting to become really interested in creating a healthier lifestyle for our family but am not really sure how I’ll pull it off here in Brooklyn, NY.”
This is a great question, and here’s my answer:
Thanks for watching! You may have noticed that I almost never mention that I am a Type 1 Diabetic. It’s not a big secret, but it’s something I have always avoided having be part of my identity. After overhearing someone calling me “the diabetic girl” when I was young, I was sure that I didn’t want to hear it again. Yes– being diabetic affects my life almost constantly– but there is so much more going on with me and around me, that it’s not something I need to attach to my identity. I’d also like to respectfully note that this is not a request for all of the natural cures you’ve heard of for diabetes. I hope you’ll understand.

Thanks for watching and reading. I would love to hear more of your own stories about how you came to natural health (or where you’re starting) and to talk about any other questions you may have!
Well, that was SO fun to watch! I have always been so proud of how well you take care of yourself and help others! Love, from your (still) crunchy Mama 🙂
Thanks for sharing your story, parents have such power to influence their children. Hoping and praying this next generation will be more aware of how to live a healthy lifestyle.
Thanks for answering my question! I grew up in a household that was very skeptical of natural health so it’s a bit foreign to me, but I’ve really gotten interested in it over the past few years. Thanks for the book recommendations, I am looking forward to checking those out!
I just read your interview on being diabetic on the other site, and I wanted to mention “Smarties” in USA are known as “Rockets” in the UK and Canada. You can find them everywhere in Canada around Halloween!
Take care 🙂
I enjoy reading your blog and watching your question and answer sessions. In this video, I noticed something that looks like a Berkey water filtration system. Would you share which one you use and how you decided on that particular system?
Thank you in advance.
I came across quite a bit of your blog. great. You help me know my health sooner. I found that the risk of diabetes in young people is quite high. One of the reasons is that there are too many carbonated soft drinks around us.
