A week from today, we say goodbye to Amberg and make our way over to the next chapter in our lives, even though we’re not quite sure where that chapter is, exactly. But we have been making sure to have some good things planned along the way. So far, this is what we’ve got planned:
1. Monday morning– have movers come and pack a downsized-version of our belongings, which we’ll reconnect with in a couple of months.
2. Monday afternoon– take a train to Nuremburg, where we’ll spend the night in a hotel.
3. Tuesday morning, fly to Milan. Take train to Lake Como, where we’ll spend three days!!
4. Friday– fly from Milan to Paris.
5. Spend FIVE days in Paris! I can’t believe this is happening!
6. Somewhere around the 9th– fly from Paris to Portland.
7. Spend about a week at a hotel in downtown Portland. I expect to spend most of my time eating applewood smoked bacon, browsing the wares at Anthropologie and, you know, speaking English.
8. Go to the Oregon coast for another week of relaxation, courtesy of Jeff’s employing agency.
At this point, nearly a month later, the unbelievable, real vacationing part will be over. Just a side note– I think I should tell you that we took a family vacation for the first time ever last Spring, before we made our big move over here. I think it was three days long. We are not used to this sort of thing at all, and are quite inexperienced in vacation-taking. Jeff didn’t have much time off at all while he was working here, so we never went away for more than three days here, either. But we are definitely up for the challenge!
After this, it will be a visiting-people marathon of the best kind. We’ll stay with family, connect with friends for meals, and generally be somewhat anchorless. Until Jeff gets a job. Which, of course could happen just about any moment. He has applications out for five jobs in five different countries, and there will undoubtedly be more. It will be a very strange time, but fun, and certainly exciting. My daughter can’t think of a more ideal lifestyle. I can’t quite agree. But there is so much to make up for the endless transitions ahead, and I look forward to telling you all about it.
