While on my special tour of Amberg, my friend made sure to bring me by an unusual site and tell me some interesting Amberg lore. I have passed this statue of three primitive heads a number of times, and always wondered what the story was. I will do my best to recall what she told me.

In 1458, the king at the time in Amberg died, and his son (the heir) was adopted by his uncle. The uncle tried to name himself as king, rather than granting the position to his nephew. The people of Amberg revolted, demanding that the son of the king assume his rightful place on the throne. Three particularly outspoken men were beheaded because of this. They are considered to be heroes of Amberg.

The plaque states that whoever strokes one of these decapitated heads will be beholden to Amberg and will be sure to return again someday.
We certainly plan on coming back to Amberg, but I thought I’d make doubly sure!
I love that picture of you!. Glad you are enjoying your last few days there and still making new discoveries. It has not been what you expected but you are so good at making the best of it.
Look at you, looking so cute! I’m glad to know that you’ll be back in Amberg some day! I believe it. Look at the pretty cobbles and iron grate behind you, not to mention everything else as well. I’m so glad you got to live there, even if it was for too short a time!
You have really made the most of your time there, and recorded it well with words and pictures. Good job! love, Grandma
