There is a little antique shop just a few doors down from our apartment. We have wandered in there a few times, and really liked what we saw. It’s not one of those places where everything is in excellent condition and very curated, and super expensive. There are a lot of things kind of falling apart, and it’s all fairly dirty. I like that kind of place, because you can get some great deals, and everything shows its history. Anyway, we had gone in a few times, but hadn’t actually ever walked away with anything. The weekend before last, I had had it with our indecision! We need trunks! Chests! Dressers! Mirrors! Tables!…. “Let’s just show up and find some things that will work!” So we went down there and made some decisions. It felt really good.
We got this beautiful chest for our bedroom, to put off-season clothes in. It was such a relief to take cardboard boxes out of our room, and have a nice piece like this in their place. You’ll see a couple more pictures of this soon.
Next, we chose a heavy but lovely dresser for the dining room. We had an old patio table covered with a bedspread in this spot before– what a relief! The drawers are still mostly empty, but it’s great to have a place to store table linens and such. And so nice to see real furniture in here!
Still waiting on the piece for the kitchen… I’m not sure what to call it. It’s like a dresser with a marble top, kind of reminds me of a pie safe. I actually don’t totally remember it. I found it at an antique yard kind of place, and it turns out that it is owned by the same guy as the downstairs shop. So we negotiated it in with the other items.
Lastly, I found this sweet little cupboard for Amelia’s room. We need to hang it on the wall still. I love it, and she really needs some real furniture (preferably things that close and hide their contents) in her room.
This was the week for furniture! Up next, an actual sofa and an actual armchair. Oh, the luxury!
So fun! Are you going to be able to ship stuff home with you when you return?
