I thought I’d share a fun family tradition we’ve started. When you’re new in a town, things can get a little lonely. We’re not at the point where we do much with other people, but we still want to get out of the house. And when you’re trying to be frugal, it can be quite challenging during the winter, since there aren’t many places to go in the evenings without buying dinner. So, on Fridays I put something on the stove to cook for dinner while we’re gone, and we find a warm, friendly pub to spend a little time in. Jeff and I usually order cider, then some sort of snack to share with Amelia. She loves pork scratchings (aka chicharones or pork rinds) and we like pistachios. Our bill is usually £10 or less.

It’s fun to just be out of the house, and among other people. Sometimes we bring a game to play. It’s such a nice, simple, affordable way to start the weekend. Tonight we are going here. TGIF!
What a good idea! I like your choice for tonight… have fun!
That place you linked looked nice! How far away is it?
Hi Nathan, it was between 15-20 minutes away. There are a lot of places like this in little villages all around us. It’s nice to get a little bit outside of Bury, but at 5:30 p.m., there was no one else there. So we will stay in town if we go out early, since part of the fun is being out with other people. But the pub was nice– there was a great fireplace, and it was like hanging out in someone’s living room.
