We set up for a picnic outside…
All sorts of things I imagine butterflies would enjoy, if their mouths were a bit bigger…
When it came time for the cake ceremony, it was starting to rain, so we hustled it all back inside– which I had decorated already, just in case. (I am getting pretty good at living in England!)
The weather cleared again, and we went back to our party games. This time, it was “Pin the Butterfly on the Blossom.” That was a lot of fun!
And we ended up with a nice keepsake, which is hanging over Amelia’s bed now.
Next: Musical chairs! This was a special version, with live music…
The little girls had so much fun, we did it again. It was very telling of personalities… Amelia is not competitive, but always had the luck of ending up right in front of en empty chair, while two other girls were fighting over a different one. We’d have to remind her to take a seat!
And then there were all of the sweet and thoughtful gifts.
We barely made it through them, before we had to run inside as it started to pour…
Six year old girls are a lot of fun! We were also really happy to get to meet these nice girls’ parents, and hope to be able to spend more time with them (or at least their kids!) Amelia had a really wonderful day, and now we are completely spent, and very glad, as always to have this sweet little thing in our lives.
There really are no words for how darling this party was! You really have a great eye – I’ve seen it in your interior design photos and this party looks like something from a magazine. Really sweet. Did you make that beautiful large blossom? It is spectacular! I also love that Jeff played the fiddle for those girls (I feel like I have to call it a fiddle on such an occasion!) Looks like Amelia had an absolutely perfect day and it looks like her friends are having a marvelous time as well – I love how the little girl in the hello kitty shirt looks like she is having such a fun time in the musical chairs picture – just lovely!
Thank you, Marisa! I did make the flower, and it was actually very easy. I got an old piece of cardboard and some glue, and rounded up the tissue paper from the presents Amelia had already unwrapped. It was a quick, fun project!
And you are right about calling the violin a fiddle in this case! It was so sweet, and reminded me of Pa in the Little House on the Prairie books. Glad you enjoyed the pictures– it was so sweet, we were so glad we decided to go for it!
Yes!! This party is over the top! I think you should submit this to a magazine! I’m sure all those girls had the time of their lives!! Amelia is so dear!! Love you.
Thank you, Grandma! After your encouragement, I have submitted it to Apartment Therapy… We’ll see if they want to feature it. And, yes, those girls had so much fun,and it was nice to be a part of that. I don’t think anyone had more fun that Amelia, though, and that was the best part!
Your party table is just beautiful! I only have to figure out how to sell the idea to my two sons for one of their birthdays…
Dragonfly party? Firefly party (if there can be real fire, or at least flashlights– ooh, flashlight tag!) I like girly parties, but I also think about what I’d do if I had boys…
What a beautiful birthday celebration for a beautiful girl! That blossom is amazing. And everything- from the cake, to the cupcakes, to the lovely picnic, and the live music- has your magical touch. Thanks for letting us take a peek at her special day. xx
Aw, thanks Jenny. So glad you enjoyed seeing/ reading the report! It was super fun. Kind of exhausting (not the preparation, but the energy required to keep up with 7 six year olds!) but totally worth it.
What a sweet little face in the first pic.
Thank you, Shelly, and thanks for stopping by!
What a lovely party…my birthday’s coming up…do you think 43 is too old for a butterfly party?
Kym– certainly not too old! And here’s the perfect cake: https://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Persian-Love-Cake-232273
It’s made with rose water and decorated with candied rose petals. Just add elderflower wine, and you are SET!
🙂
What a perfect party! Your little girls looks like she had the best time ever! Good job mom!
Aw, thanks Ana! I think she had more fun than even she expected, which is great!
What a lovely post! It makes me remember all the “at home” birthdays I did with my own children. I love, love pin the butterfly on the blossom and may steal that to do with my class! So great, thanks for sharing, beautiful pictures as well!
Thank you Margot! It actually reminded me of the birthday parties I went to as a kid– the party games, running around outside, etc. I love the old-fashioned kind of fun. And the blossom was pretty easy to make, I’m sure it would be a fun class project!
What an utterly magical birthday party!
Amelia will remember this, and cherish it always.
I love all the beautiful edible blossoms.
Thank you, Monika! It’s kind of nice to be in the part of Amelia’s life that she will remember now. I remember wanting her to have a really good time at her parties when she was younger, but I also realized that she wouldn’t remember them anyhow… We usually just invited friends to a park, served them breakfast, and let the kids play. This was our first “real” party, and it was super fun!
thanks for posting..
Just beautiful! Enchanting! You’re so creative and colorful, Ariana! Lovely!
WOW!! My almost 3 yr. old loves butterflies and I can’t wait to use some of these adorable ideas!! Thanks for posting and her party was just precious!! Great job Mama! 😉
Lovely party. Hi! I just came across your post as I was looking for some party ideas for my daughter’s upcoming birthday. I have a butterfly theme planned for her and I have gone through many blogs and pictures but there was something so endearing about this party. You have a lovely girl and the party looks awesome. Hope I plan a good one for mine too 🙂
What a precious birthday party! I am planning a birthday party for my two girls who are exactly 3 years and a day apart. My eldest is going to be 4 and she wants a butterfly theme, but we have already booked a petting zoo, so I have to come up with a creative way to combine the two. I love your blossom, how did you get the butterflies to stick to it and also what did you use to make your butterfly. Any suggestions you may have is greatly appreciated. Thanks for sharing your daughters’ lovely birthday!
