Excitement is building at our house! Tomorrow morning we will hop on a train at 5:30 a.m. bound for Munich. Once there, we will greet our first guests– Jeff’s mom and dad– and bring them back to our place. It will be so fun to introduce them to our life here in Germany. The last week has been spent busily getting a room ready for them and any other future visitors. Oh, how I wish I had taken a “before” photo of the room! Let me try to set the scene for you: 10 year old velveteen carpet, black background with pink and turquoise comets; old peach and turquoise paint… That’s probably enough to give you a basic idea! And here we are now:

This armoire was the first piece found for the room, and it inspired me to do something colorful, with more traditional patterns and colors.

The picture on the wall is a sketch of Amberg. I found it for two euros, and painted the border a light blue, to keep it from looking too dingy.

I have been burning these candles in here all of the time, and the air smells like honey.

This is how the couch converts into a bed– just big enough, and very space-efficient.
We didn’t have a big budget for a guest room, but this was one of those very easy projects, where everything just sort of fell into place. I wanted a cheerful, cozy, and peaceful place for not only visitors, but for us to spend time as well. The timing coincided very well with closing off most of our bedroom, where I usually spent much of the day. I have been enjoying this room SO much, it will be hard to give it away for a week! It is really cozy and quiet, and I have been loving taking a pot of tea in here to read on the couch.

Next? I want it to be us!!!!!
