Back in the Swing of Things

How is it already a week into September?  How did that happen?  The summer was an odd mix for us, of very ordinary life– no big summer trips or events, just daily life– and the whole roller coaster of not getting a certain job, working on alternate plans, then getting the job and working hard on processing all of it.

So, we’re a little tired and ready for routine again, as usual.IMG_0576

(We had a lot of small adventures all summer, and lots of picnics.  This one was a picnic in the woods.)

Amelia started school at the end of last week– her third school in England in as many years.  She has such a great, adventurous attitude about it, and I am so thankful for that.  Seriously.
It’s hard to put our hearts into much of the daily things here right now, but we are all trying.
IMG_0730I am back now to focusing more on what I’m doing here on this blog.  Over the summer I had so little routine, and was just going for it haphazardly, as most of us do in the summer with kids at home.  I’m looking forward to all the things I have to share with you here– lots of recipes, English life and excursions, some wild food, and frank talk about life.  I’ll be doing another Q & A Wednesday this week, focusing on questions I’ve gotten about our upcoming move to Spain– so please ask any questions you may have about that in the comments!

We’re in that awkward phase of being far enough out from our move that there isn’t a whole lot to do, yet feeling a little anxious and wanting to make things happen for the next chapter.  So we’re focusing on cleaning our house and sorting through our belongings and of course clearing many of them out.  And reading books about Spain (I am about to start this one, can’t wait!) and researching online, talking about Spain, Spain, Spain, and all of that stuff.
IMG_0754To add to the excitement, we are also planning our first trip back to the States since we moved here over three years ago!  We’re SO excited to be spending Thanksgiving with our family in the Midwest and Los Angeles.  So. Excited.

Anyway, just wanted to write a little note about what’s going on over here, and to ask– How was your summer, and how you are feeling about fall coming?  Are you ready?

I think I may have missed the plans … Spain? Is it next on the docket? How exciting.

I’m just about ready for fall, I think. The only thing I don’t like is that these days, moving from summer into fall means that our daughter leaves to return to university (happy for her, of course, but we do miss her!). At least she’ll be in Italy this semester, so she’s closer to us.

I’ve been meaning to tell you how excited I am for you, moving to Spain, since it’s what you have been wanting for so long. Congratulations!

Wow, what a big milestone for your family!! I hope everything goes smoothly, and glad that she can start out in Europe, near home.

And thank you for the congratulations!
