I should note that there is also a cherry tree or two growing here on public land, which of course will make our walk rather tasty pretty soon!
Speaking of tasty… Nettles. I haven’t done anything with them yet, but there are plans in the works for some nettles wine, and maybe some cold nettles soup, since they are absolutely everywhere. And, yes, Amelia can now identify them– but we both learned the hard way!
This is the best part. At the end of last week, we saw one bright red poppy. The next day, there were three open, and we have been counting every day. Today? 38!
There is so much to enjoy… With today’s warmer weather, the meadow-y smell was especially rich. What a treat!
What are you loving about where you live?
Gretchen says
I love the palm trees and the occasional whiff of night blooming jasmine at night.

Gretchen, from here, that sounds SO exotic! Missing SoCal…

I love the wild prairie grasses and flowers that are everywhere. Makes me imagine how beautiful our region once was…before farms, cities, and strip malls.

Carol, I was just sitting in my back yard, wondering what was growing here two hundred years ago…
Grandma Seelye says
I love our back yard/garden! Abundant fruit and flowers!
Ariana says
Me too, Grandma– you’ve put so much love and care into that very fruitful space!

The clover, the poppies, and the smell of wildflowers in the air. Currently it’s Dame’s Rocket that makes the whole world smell sweet (or at least our little corner of it.) Today was one of those days where you run around all day and feel like it will never end. I had 45 minutes at home between errands and events and it was such a wonderful little break from the chaos to sit outside and smell the flowers, wander down to the mailbox and back, watch a woodpecker couple scouting for a nesting site and the hummingbirds tasting the wisteria. It made me wish I could have been home all day, but since I couldn’t it was a refreshing little break.

How wonderful to love your own space so much, to find a retreat there. I feel the same way about our little park-like yard. Wish we could spend time in yours, though!
